Do You Doodle? try Doodlecast for Kids http://itunes.apple.com/app/doodlecast-for-kids/id469487373 I just downloaded this app from zinc Roe Games (thanks for the promo code!) and I had to play with it first but I'm betting #LD is going to love this app. He's at that stage now where he just loves singing and drawing and making music. I can't wait to show this to him. Maybe we'll try it with the stylus as well. I think it's funny to note that kids his age seem to have this need to make sounds CONSTANTLY. Lucian is always humming or singing or making some kind of noise. Sometimes it works on our nerves, but other times I have to chuckle because it's the times when he is QUIET that we worry what he may be up to. Play with this app and share YOUR Doodlecasts with me. It's fun! (don't forget to let your kiddos play too!)

Now that Lion is out and many Mac users are downloading and upgrading, what Applications will be left in the dust? You might consider iBank for your financial management software needs. Here is some information on the topic from the IGG Software site:

Here's why full-featured iBank 4 is the best choice for your next personal finance manager:

  • Mac OS X 10.7-ready: iBank 4 is fully compatible with the newest Mac OS X, Lion.
  • Easy setup: iBank's setup assistant simplifies importing all of your transactions, accounts, categories and investments from Quicken for Mac - or PC! (note: iBank does not use classes).
  • All kinds of accounts: Track your savings, checking, credit cards, loans, mortgages and investment accounts... see balances at a glance.
  • Bank downloads: Get your transaction data quickly via Direct Connect from most major financial institutions, or use iBank’s integrated browser to download from your bank’s website (online bill pay isn't supported at this time).
  • Categorize everything: Create category hierarchies, assign categories or sub-categories to each transaction, or split transactions for more detailed tracking.
  • Generate powerful reports: Create beautiful, detailed reports on account balances, income and expense, investments, net worth and more (note that report template selection differs from Quicken's).
  • Reconciliation: Use this powerful feature to reconcile bank statements and maintain exact balances with minimum hassle.
  • Full-featured investment support: Track buys, sells, dividends and more; review security prices over time; analyze portfolio performance with powerful investor reports (note that iBank cannot import security price histories from Quicken).
  • iOS sync: Use iBank Mobile (sold separately) to enter transactions on the go and sync with iBank from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
  • One version, worldwide: Use multiple currency support to create accounts in different currencies and apply exchange rates to transfers.
  • Better organization: Use account groups and smart accounts to keep your finances organized at a glance.
  • Choose your budget: iBank 4 offers both traditional and envelope-style budgets.
  • More flexible file import: iBank imports data in OFX, QFX, QIF or CSV formats for both new and existing accounts.**
  • Integrated web browser: Access, view and download transactions from bank websites without leaving iBank.
  • File attachments: Attach documents, images, PDFs, statements or receipts to transactions, then review them in Cover Flow.
  • Built-in camera integration: Use your Mac's iSight or FaceTime camera to quickly attach photos to transactions.
  • Category images & background colors: Customize your data for easy review.
  • 64-bit optimization: Take full advantage of your Mac's processing power.
  • *Quicken Essentials is Lion-compatible, but lacks true investment support, QIF export and many other key features found in iBank 4.
    **Quicken can import QFX into existing accounts and QIF when creating new accounts.

    Ready to make the switch to iBank? Download now and start your 30-day trial!

    I wanted to share a message i received from Scott Marc Becker over at www.iggsoftware.com -- makers of iBank:

    BEFORE UPDATING TO MAC OS X 10.7 LION: users of all versions of Quicken for Mac (prior to Quicken Essentials) MUST export their data so that they may import it to new software, whether Essentials, iBank 4, or any other app.

    Updating to Lion without extricating one's Quicken data first will mean that it is trapped in an app that won't launch.

    Please help spread the word - we're all about helping people keep track of their finances regardless of what software they prefer, and this is something that's going to cause a lot of grief.

    Thanks!

    PVC Pipe Water Bottle Launcher

    Written by: Alan Parekh at 10:23 am. Filed under Cool Gadgets, DIY Hacks

    If you are looking to make a cool Water Bottle Launcher that can launch 2 liter pop bottles with some good force have a look at this one at Science Toy Maker.

    Have a look here for full build instructions.

    "2-liter soda bottles turned water rockets are as shrieking good a time as a water park and a lot easier to build! They streak into the air faster than the eye can track while dousing everyone in the launch area with water. Occasionally, my middle school students host and teach classes of elementary school kids from across the street to make a take-home science project, and we always finish off with a couple of launches. Years later, when I teach those now-middle school kids, they never remember me, but invariably remember the water rockets!"

      Did this and it works well. I made two changes/improvements though.

      1. Instead of a 2 inch 1 1/2″ pvc sleeve used to hold the bottle locking mech in place I used a 1 1/4″ coupler. No need to cut a little off of a long pvc piece.

      2. Instead of melting and mushing the pvc to make a bulge I cut the top threaded piece off of a 2 liter bottle and slid it down to the line where you would otherwise melt and bulge. Then I added a rubber O ring gasket and carefully glued the cut off lid in place with epoxy.

    8. byron Says:
      October 15th, 2010

      To launch a 5 gallon jug, you would probably need to increase the bulge with a coupler or multiple layers of melted plastic such that you had a graduated bump to create a seal on the larger opening of a 5 gallon jug’s mouth.

      Dear Group,

      I enjoyed reading your website and reviewing your material about launching bottle rockets.

      I would like to inform you of a new design for a bottle rocket launcher that features a patented internal spring loaded release mechanism. It firmly locks the bottle in place before pressurization and allows the user to release the bottle with a gentle pull of a nylon cord at an appropriate time. I personally feel it is superior to any release mechanism on the market. It is ready to use immediately.
      You can learn more about this launcher by going to “ez-launch.com” on the internet and reviewing the various screen views. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know at blastoff@ez-launch.com.

      Sincerely,

      Dallas E. Murdoch DDS

    Mon, 14 Mar 2011 06:35:06 -0700 iBank 4.2 released http://momsgonegeek.posterous.com/ibank-42-released http://momsgonegeek.posterous.com/ibank-42-released
    March 10, 2010
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    IGG SOFTWARE RELEASES IBANK 4.2 FOR MORE POWERFUL, ADVANCED MAC MONEY MANAGEMENT
    Free Update To iBank 4 Includes In-Line Editor Calculations, Improved Data Entry And More

    (PUTNEY, VT) — IGG Software today announced the release of iBank 4.2, a major update to the leading Mac-only personal finance management application. The new version delivers multiple enhancements including in-line editor calculations, improved transaction entry and split editing, and enhanced rules for complex imports. The update is free to current users of iBank 4.

    “iBank 4 is already the most full-featured finance manager for Mac users,” says iBank’s developer, IGG president Ian Gillespie. “But the six months since its original release have given us enough time and customer feedback to focus on the changes that users want most.”

    iBank 4.2 offers major improvements including:

    - the default of the transaction entry date to the last date entered;

    - enhanced control over automatic import rule creation;

    - the ability to perform calculations within the in-line editor when entering amounts in numeric fields;

    - changed statement labels to reflect their end dates;

    - allowing the use of semicolons in CSV files;

    - improved British localization;

    - and the addition of a built-in crash reporter to aid in faster fixes for critical bugs.

    iBank 4.2 also delivers more than two dozen fixes, including several related to reports, as well as QIF import, check printing and many more.

    Among many new features included in September’s release of iBank 4 were faster transaction entry and dynamic editing options in an intuitive, innovative two-line register; an all-new reporting engine; envelope budgeting; a seamless set-up assistant for transferring data from Mac and PC versions of Quicken, MS Money, or other finance programs; and significant speed enhancements throughout. These improvements built upon longstanding iBank features such as direct downloads from online accounts, custom check printing, robust data export and iPhone sync.

    IGG offers an unlimited 30-day free trial download, free support and a 30-day unconditional guarantee on direct purchases from the IGG web store. The retail price of iBank 4 is $59.99; licensed users of iBank 3 can upgrade for $29.99. iBank 4.2 requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or higher, and will run on Macs using either Intel or PowerPC processors. The latest version can be downloaded at http://www.iggsoftware.com/ibank, where there is also access to a growing library of iBank 4 video tutorials.

    Syncing iBank to iOS devices requires iBank Mobile 1.2 for iPhone and iPod touch, sold separately on the iTunes App Store. The app offers mobile transaction entry, QIF data export and full sync with iBank via Wi-Fi, MobileMe or any WebDAV server.

    iBank 4 is also available from the Mac App Store, where the new 4.2 update is pending approval. iBank has been a number-one selling finance app, as well as the top-grossing finance app, since the launch of the Mac App Store in January.

    IGG Software, Inc., was founded in 2003 by developer Ian Gillespie to offer intuitive, elegant and powerful applications for individuals and small businesses. Based in Putney, Vermont, its flagship products are iBank, for personal finance management, and iBiz, for time-tracking and billing. For further information, review licenses, or to schedule interviews with Ian Gillespie or Chief Architect James Gillespie, please contact IGG Marketing Director Scott Marc Becker: scott@iggsoftware.com.

Here is one of them. A good friend gave us this old "clamshell" Mac iBook. It's running OS9 and has a few cute games installed on it, one of which is an old CD Rom application.

    Lucian is home sick today with sniffles and a cough and his baby brother Keagan is napping. This is a wonderful way to spend some quiet time!

    Right now, Lucian is playing a Fisher Price game which teaches him to focus and respond to verbal instructions. At 4 years old, this is something he really needs to practice. He's really enjoying himself and it gives me a window of opportunity to get a little work done here in the office.
